2024 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster—a year of challenges, progress, setbacks, and ultimately, triumphs. Looking back, it’s incredible how far everything has come, despite the unexpected hurdles that tested patience and resilience. This blog recounts the major milestones of the year, from office renovations and business expansions to global travels and personal growth.
Each month brought its unique set of experiences and lessons, and this is the story of how it all unfolded, step by step.
January – A Fresh Start with Big Plans
The year kicked off with immense excitement and a sense of relief as the building permit—secured after months of effort in 2023—finally went up on the window. The real work began with the demolition phase. Walls were taken down, ceilings on the main floor were raised, and the space was completely gutted for a fresh start.
Hidden beneath layers of history, old hardwood floors emerged, captivating in their beauty but too thin from years of sanding to be preserved. While it was disheartening not to reuse them, their discovery was a reminder of the craftsmanship behind the building.
However, progress also revealed challenges. Snow on the roof, combined with ongoing construction, caused leaks in the ceiling of the upper level—an unplanned expense requiring the attic space to be completely redone.
Amidst these renovations were countless decisions to make. Cabinets were being finalized with local makers, finishes and colors were chosen, and even seemingly small details like cabinetry handles and paint swatches required attention. But the most significant setback of the month? Postponing a sourcing trip to India. Canada’s ongoing diplomatic tensions with India meant visas for Canadians were revoked, delaying plans to meet suppliers and procure products until later in the year.
Despite the challenges, the month ended on a productive note, with drywall in place and meetings with electricians to finalize light fittings. While progress was slower than anticipated, the project was in motion.
February – Small Wins and Lingering Frustrations
The excitement of January lingered into February, but so did the anxieties. Progress, while evident, felt slower with days passing when nothing seemed to happen on-site.
Still, there were bright moments. Insulation for the attic and drywall installations were finally completed upstairs. Decisions on boardroom chairs, light fixtures, and washroom fittings brought the space personality, with bold red chairs adding a pop of color—red being a personal favorite.
While everything appeared on track for a March finish, there were hiccups. Floors were installed and looked stunning, yet issues arose with leveling and safety when nails were improperly used for the stairs’ beading. These were resolved by opting for adhesives instead, prioritizing safety and aesthetics.
The anticipation continued to build, fueled by the promise of progress and a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship coming to life.
March – A Journey to India
March brought a long-awaited trip to India—a whirlwind of meetings, supplier visits, and creative collaborations. Time spent in workshops, observing artisans hand-embroidering products and speaking with workers, was deeply inspiring. Orders for meticulously crafted items were placed, adding personal touches that would soon enhance the retail space.
Beyond the business side, the trip served as a reminder of the value of connecting directly with people who are passionate about their work. Each piece ordered wasn’t just a product—it was a story, crafted with care and expertise.
April – From Anticipation to Disappointment
Returning home in April brought a jarring realization—the project had come to a standstill in the weeks spent abroad. Walking into a space still far from completion was crushing. Meetings with the builder became a daily occurrence, and makeshift workspaces amidst dust and cold became the new norm.
Progress felt like two steps forward, one step back. A damaged countertop and a canceled window order were just some of the setbacks. The builder’s arrogance and poor communication skills further strained the process. At times, it felt like nothing would come together.
Yet, glimmers of hope shone through the chaos. Products from India arrived, and breathtaking brass signs went up, adding character to the space. Lighting installations and retail setup began to breathe life into the project. The month ended on a slightly higher note, with the space slowly coming together.
May – Seeing the Vision Take Shape
By May, the vision started to become a reality. Logos were installed, furniture and fittings found their rightful place, and the excitement of moving closer to completion began to feel tangible. Interviewing staff brought new energy to the space.
Though there was still work to be done, the dream once distant was finally within reach.
June through September – Settling and Expanding
The summer months were dedicated to settling into the space and continuing to grow. Products were regularly added to the retail area, and all operations were moved under one roof—goodbye long commutes!
By July, the space felt more alive than ever. A Father’s Day special brought in new clientele, and Canada Day celebrations allowed for a brief respite to enjoy decorating the home and outdoor space.
August brought meaningful connections with new faces and clients, while September finally saw the installation of new windows and repaired basement floors. Shelving was installed, and the retail space continued to flourish.
October – The Big Reveal
October was a milestone month, highlighted by the open house event. The turnout was overwhelming, filled with incredible people who showed support for the vision behind the space.
The sense of community was palpable, reinforcing why this project was worth every challenge. New additions, from kitchenettes to massage room supplies, made the space feel more functional and complete. Diwali festivities added a touch of warmth and beauty, lighting up the space both figuratively and literally.
November and December – A Year to Remember
The final months of the year brought reflection and gratitude. December’s trade fair in India was a fitting bookend to the year—a return to where so much inspiration was drawn.
The year concluded with a sense of achievement, knowing every challenge had been met head-on and every milestone celebrated.
Looking Ahead
2024 was a year that tested resilience, creativity, and perseverance. From construction setbacks and supplier challenges to celebrations of growth and connection, it was a reminder that every great endeavor comes with its share of trials.
Thank you to everyone who supported this vision—you made each moment worthwhile. Here’s to a bright and even more exciting 2025!
